Use Different Lights for Different Jobs
A headlamp helps with tasks where you need both hands. A lantern lights a surrounding area. A handheld flashlight lets you direct the beam. One light may not do all three jobs comfortably.
Read the Runtime Detail
Compare runtime at usable brightness levels. A maximum brightness number is only one setting, and products may reduce output as batteries discharge. Look for clear manufacturer information about output modes and testing methods.
Make Charging and Spares Simple
Check the battery type and whether batteries, a charger, or a cable are included. Rechargeable lights need a way to recharge during an extended outage. Replaceable-battery lights need the correct spares, stored according to the battery instructions.
Put Lights Where You Need Them
Keep a familiar light near the places you would first reach in the dark. Check switches, hanging loops, and whether the light stands securely. Review the setup periodically so the light is ready when needed.
Put the Plan Before the Purchase.
Choose one gap in your supplies, compare suitable options, and learn the equipment before you store it.
