There is a useful middle ground between a tiny pocket blade and a knife that takes over the side of your pack. The Cold Steel SRK Compact 5" SK-5 Clip Point Razor-Sharp Blade 4.5" Durable Kray-Ex Handle Tactical Fixed Blade Knife w/Secure-Ex Sheath sits in that conversation with a listed 5-inch blade.

The Compact Size Has a Purpose

The title pairs that blade with a 4.5-inch handle. That gives you a practical starting point for judging reach and grip separately. I would compare those measurements with a knife that already feels comfortable, rather than deciding from the word “compact” alone.

Blade: 5-inch clip point.
Steel: SK-5.
Handle: Kray-Ex, listed at 4.5 inches.
Carry: Secure-Ex sheath.

SK-5 Needs a Care Routine

This is a carbon-steel choice, so I would plan to keep the blade clean and dry and follow Cold Steel's care directions. For someone happy to maintain outdoor tools, that can be an ordinary part of ownership. Someone wanting the least fuss after damp trips may prefer to compare stainless alternatives.

The clip-point profile deserves a look alongside the length. Blade shape affects the balance between a pointed tip and the edge you use for ordinary slicing. I would compare photographs of the whole blade, not just the steel label. A knife can have the desired material while its shape still feels less natural for your most frequent camp chores.

The Sheath Is Part of the Buy

A fixed blade spends a lot of time being carried. I would check where the Secure-Ex setup can mount and whether its retention suits the way you pack. A knife that is difficult to reach or uncomfortable against other gear quickly loses its convenience.

The SRK Compact makes sense to compare for general camp cutting where a 5-inch blade is sufficient. I would choose a saw or axe for the jobs better suited to those tools, keeping this knife focused on cutting rather than expecting it to do the entire campsite's work.
