BAOFENG UV-5RM Plus Review: A Feature-Rich Orange Handheld

Finding a radio in a bag is one problem. Knowing what every button and menu does is another. The orange BAOFENG UV-5RM Plus 10W Ham Radio in Orange | Airband & NOAA RX | 1.77" Color Display | 2500mAh USB-C | One-Key Frequency Copy | CHIRP Compatible draws attention visually while offering a fairly involved feature set.

The published listing includes a 1.77-inch color display, 2500mAh battery, USB-C charging, 10W output claim, frequency copying, and CHIRP compatibility.

The Screen and Battery Are Daily-Use Details

A color screen can help organize information, but the layout still has to be readable to you. I’d look at the actual displayed labels and menus before assuming the extra screen space means easier operation.

• Display: 1.77-inch color screen.
• Battery: 2500mAh listed.
• Charging: USB-C.
• Programming: CHIRP compatibility and frequency-copy feature advertised.

Copying a Frequency Isn’t a Complete Configuration

The one-key copying function may simplify part of setup, but it doesn’t explain whether the copied arrangement is appropriate for your use. Confirm the relevant service, equipment capabilities, and operating requirements before transmitting.

Similarly, airband and NOAA reception describe listening functions. Don’t assume a receiver feature creates a two-way connection to the source you hear.

Choose It for the Controls You’ll Use

This is a more deliberate purchase than a plain family multipack. A radio enthusiast may appreciate the extra configuration options. A person who only wants one agreed channel during an outing may find them unnecessary.

The 10W claim also shouldn’t become a promised distance. Your actual terrain and antenna setup still shape the conversation.

Orange equipment may also be easier to spot among dark accessories when repacking the bag.

My View of This Version

I’d compare the UV-5RM Plus when its programming features solve a known need. For simple shared operation, I’d compare fewer-menu alternatives as well. The review uses published specifications rather than measured output, runtime, or field range.
