Extra brightness isn't always the feature that makes a headlamp easier to live with. The BioLite Range 400 puts quick charging, red-light options, and a modest listed weight into a 400-lumen design.
What the 400-Lumen Model Includes
BioLite lists a dimmable white spot, white strobe, red flood, and red strobe. I'd use the ordinary white settings for most work and keep the other modes for situations where they serve a purpose. Knowing how to reach a low setting without cycling through unwanted flashing modes would be worth checking.
- High and low: 400 and 1.5 lumens.
- Weight: 2.6 ounces.
- Battery: 1,634mAh.
- Input: USB-C fast charging.
A Quick Top-Up Before Leaving
The published specification says an eight-minute charge can add an hour on high, with a full refill listed at eighty minutes. Those claims assume the proper charging conditions. I'd still start a trip with the lamp charged rather than make the fast-charge feature the whole plan.
The runtime chart lists six hours on high and two hundred on low. They describe very different amounts of light. The low figure is useful for low-light planning; it shouldn't be attached to the maximum output.
Comfort and Controls
A four-position tilt can put the beam on your hands while keeping your head in a comfortable position. The moisture-wicking band, brightness memory, and lock mode are practical details I would assess alongside the output. Accidental activation in a packed bag can spoil an otherwise good charging routine.
IP67 protection is listed, including a defined temporary-immersion condition. Use and drying directions still apply, especially around charging.
I haven't worn this headlamp. Based on its specifications, I'd compare the Range 400 for regular camp tasks and general outdoor use. The main choice against its siblings is whether you need their different weight, output, or mode selection.
