A brief match flame can disappear before awkward tinder is ready. The Exotac Stormproof Matches is intended to provide a more sustained ignition window than an ordinary small match.
Exotac lists 25 matches per box, an extra striker, and a burn time of up to 15 seconds. I would treat that as the maker's stated capability, not a guarantee that every fire will start within one match.
What the Package Adds
- 25 stormproof matches: A finite consumable supply.
- Extra striker: Useful when the main striker is unavailable or needs drying.
- Up to 15-second burn: More time to work with suitable prepared material.
The Striker Is Still Essential
The match design gets the attention, but the striker needs a place in the plan too. Exotac notes that a wet striker needs to dry before it works properly. I would keep spare striker material protected rather than assume stormproof wording applies identically to every part of the package.
A suitable match case may make sense for an outdoor kit. Check the internal length against the actual matches and keep the contents arranged as directed. Matches and striking surfaces shouldn't be allowed to rub together accidentally during transport.
Practice the Controlled Routine
Use the maker's striking and extinguishing directions in a safe location. A match that burns longer can be useful, but it also deserves deliberate handling until it is completely out.
These are worth comparing as an alternate ignition method alongside a familiar lighter or spark tool. They may be less convenient for frequent everyday use because every attempt consumes one of the matches.
I would choose them when a protected, longer-burning match supply fills a real gap in the fire kit. Prepared tinder and fuel remain important. The point is giving the ignition step a little more working time, not buying a promise that conditions and technique no longer matter.
